How to put a Beuchat set-up together
Start with the mask, because nothing else matters if it leaks. Freedivers want the Mundial, Super Compensator, GP1, Shark or Strato Rubber. Scuba divers want the Maxlux S, Maxlux S Clear or Maxlux Evo. Fins next. The Mundial One and Mundial One-50 are the long-blade freediving fins, and the X-Voyager is the one to look at if you travel with your kit. Straps give out before blades do, so we stock the SS US BUCKLE nylon strap on its own. Then the suit. Freediving and spearfishing run on two-piece jackets and long johns: Espadon, Espadon Prestige, Espadon Elite, Redrock, Bifo, Rocksea Trigocamo Wide, and Athena for women. Scuba divers should look instead at the FOCEA COMFORT 6, the Semi-dry X-Trem or the ZENTO. Finish with the parts people forget. A Cagoule Standard Hood or Semi-Dry X-Trem Hood, SIROCCO Sport or SIROCCO Elite boots, Aquashoes for the boat, Sirocco Open or Semi Dry Premium gloves, Sirocco Sports Socks, and a Marseillaise Freediving Weight Belt. What is the difference between Beuchat's freediving masks and the Maxlux range?
The freediving masks here are the Mundial, Super Compensator, GP1, Shark and Strato Rubber. They sit close to the face and are built around equalising easily on a breath-hold. The Maxlux S, Maxlux S Clear and Maxlux Evo are the scuba side of the range, where field of view matters more than keeping the mask small. If you do both disciplines, most people end up owning one of each.
Which Beuchat wetsuits work for UK diving?
For scuba in British water, look at the FOCEA COMFORT 6 5mm men's suit and the Semi-dry X-Trem in men's and women's cuts. The ZENTO suits cover men and women as well. Then pair them properly: the Cagoule Standard Hood 5mm or the Semi-Dry X-Trem Hood, SIROCCO Sport 5mm or SIROCCO Elite 7mm boots, and Sirocco Open Gloves 5mm or the Semi Dry Premium 4.5mm gloves. It is usually hands and head that end a dive early, not the suit.
Why are the freediving suits sold as separate jackets and long johns?
Beuchat builds most of its freediving suits as a two-piece, so a jacket goes over a long john and the torso ends up with two layers. The Espadon, Espadon Prestige, Espadon Elite, Redrock, Bifo, Rocksea Trigocamo Wide and the women's Athena all follow that pattern, and you buy the halves separately. There is also an Espadon Elite Freediving Waist Cut and an Espadon Pro pant if you want to mix pieces. Ask us before ordering if you are between sizes.
Do you stock Beuchat snorkelling gear for children?
Yes. The Beuchat Oceo Junior Snorkeling Set is the children's mask-and-snorkel package, and the Oceo Purge Junior is that snorkel on its own. For adults the Beuchat Oceo Adult Snorkeling Set does the same job, and the SPY Snorkel and the Tubair are sold separately if you already have a mask that fits you.
