Backplate-and-wing systems

The backmount side of the XDEEP range is built from a plate, a harness and a wing rather than a single sealed unit, so the rig fits you instead of the other way round, and a worn part is a part you replace rather than a system you rebuy. Oyster stocks the NX Zen Wing System and the Zen Ultralight, both built around the NX series harness, alongside the Zeos 28 and Zeos 38 for single-cylinder diving.

Choosing between Zen and Zeos

The Zen wings are narrow, which keeps them tucked against the cylinder and out of the way of anything you might snag on. The Zeos wings use a donut shape, so air moves evenly around the bladder and vents without you having to chase it into a corner. Zeos is the more direct single-cylinder choice; Zen suits divers who want the narrower profile and the NX series harness that goes with it.

The Ghost for travelling divers

The Ghost Wing System is the lightweight option, built on an aerospace-grade alloy backplate with the NX series harness and a Cordura wing. If you fly to your diving and your baggage allowance decides what comes with you, this is the one to look at first. Worth knowing before you order: the pockets are not included.

Stealth 2.0 sidemount

Stealth 2.0 is XDEEP's sidemount family, and we stock all three configurations rather than making you pick blind from one. Classic is the cave and wreck rig, with a double-layer wing whose outer Cordura layer shields the inner buoyancy layer in tight overhead spaces. REC is the simpler recreational build, with a redundant bladder for divers not in a drysuit. TEC carries a larger wing attached directly to the harness so it can handle large steel cylinders.

Getting the weighting right

All three take a central weight pocket that slides along the spine, so you can move ballast up or down until you stop fighting your own trim. We stock the SM trim pockets separately in two sizes, plus backmount trim pockets if you are running a plate, which means you can tune weighting as your exposure protection changes through the year rather than living with a compromise.

Harness parts, weighting and pockets

A backplate-and-wing rig is a collection of parts, and parts wear. We keep XDEEP harness webbing by the length, weight pockets in more than one capacity, the internal weight holders that sit inside them, and both the expandable and standard cargo pouches. There is a backmount cargo pocket too, for divers who would rather carry on the plate than on the thigh.

The rest of the XDEEP range

XDEEP does not stop at harnesses. We stock the LS200 second stage, which has both a venturi slider and a breathing effort adjuster so you can tune the breathe before or during a dive, and the LS100 as an octopus to go with it. The EX-1 fins come in three blade stiffnesses, with a softer upper foot pocket that is kinder to drysuit boots. The Radical mask is here in framed and frameless versions, and the Signature Hoodie for when you are dry.

Deploying, clipping off and connecting up

The small items are the ones people forget until the day they need them. We stock XDEEP's closed and open DSMBs, the NX series bolt snaps in small, large and double-ended, the standard bolt snaps in single and double-ended, and the inflator and inflation hoses that connect the wing to your first stage. Buy them with the rig rather than discovering the gap on the boat.

Is an XDEEP sidemount system suitable if I am new to sidemount?

The Stealth 2.0 REC is the most approachable of the three. It is compact, modular and designed around recreational use, with easy access to a central dump valve. That said, sidemount is a configuration worth learning properly rather than working out on the boat. We would rather set the harness up with you and get your trim right than sell you a rig you end up fighting. Come in or give us a call before you commit to a configuration.
