What Oyster Diving stocks from Insta360

Three cameras, offered as five products. The X5 and the X4 are 360° cameras that record everything around them at once. The Ace Pro is a conventional single-lens action camera with a flip screen. What you see on this page is the whole of the Insta360 range we carry.

Insta360 X5 Invisible Dive Bundle

The X5 is the newest of the three. It shoots 8K 360° video on dual 1/1.28in sensors, and the lenses are replaceable — scratch one on a shot line or a wreck and you swap it yourself instead of sending the camera away. Insta360 rates the body as waterproof to 15m on its own and to 60m inside the Invisible Dive Case, and quotes 185 minutes of recording in Endurance Mode.

The bundle is built for diving rather than for the shelf: Invisible Dive Case, a 114cm invisible selfie stick, floating hand grip, dive buddy, a 256GB card and a carry bag. It is a kit you can get in the water with on the day it arrives.

Insta360 X4 and the X4 Divers Bundle

The X4 is the previous generation of the same idea and still a serious camera. It records 8K 360°, 5.7K at 60fps, and 4K at 100fps for slow motion. Buy the standalone X4 and you get the camera with standard lens guards but no memory card. The X4 Divers Bundle adds the Invisible Dive Case, a selfie stick and a 64GB card — the sensible route if this is your first 360° camera.

Insta360 Ace Pro and the Ace Pro Splash Kit

The Ace Pro is the odd one out, deliberately. It is a single-lens action camera with a 1/1.3in sensor and a flip-up screen, recording 4K at 30fps with Active HDR, and Insta360 quotes up to 100 minutes of continuous recording. You point it, you frame it, you are finished — there is no reframing step afterwards.

The Splash Kit adds the Float Guard, a bright orange EVA collar that keeps the camera at the surface if it comes off a mount, along with the Ace Pro Dive Case rated to 60m with a glass port, and a 64GB card.

Why divers choose 360°

A 360° camera removes the hardest part of filming underwater, which is aiming. You are already managing buoyancy, a torch and a buddy; composing a shot at the same time is what ruins most dive footage. The X5 and X4 record everything around them and you choose the framing later, in the app, on the boat or at home.

It changes how you dive with a camera, too. On a drift or along a wall you can hold the stick out and let the camera work. The invisible selfie stick disappears from 360° footage, so the result looks as though someone was swimming alongside filming you.

Cases, cards and floats

The dive case is the accessory that matters most. Every camera here resists water to some degree on its own, but the case is what takes it to depth and puts a flat glass port in front of the lens instead of a bare one. The X5 bundle, the X4 Divers Bundle and the Ace Pro Splash Kit all include one; the standalone X4 and standalone Ace Pro do not.

Cards matter more than people expect. 8K 360° footage fills a card quickly, and a slow card will stutter mid-dive. The X5 bundle ships with a 256GB card, the X4 Divers Bundle and the Ace Pro Splash Kit with 64GB cards, and the standalone X4 with none at all.

Floats are cheap insurance. The Splash Kit includes the Float Guard for exactly this reason and the X5 bundle includes a floating hand grip. Over sand it hardly matters. Over a reef wall, it matters a great deal.

Which one should you buy?

If you want the best image on this page and you are going deep, take the X5 Invisible Dive Bundle. Newer sensors, replaceable lenses, the longest quoted battery life of the three, and it arrives dive-ready.

The X4 sits at the mid-range end and does the same job with the previous generation of sensor. If you want it for diving, take the Divers Bundle rather than the standalone body, because that version includes both the case and a card.

If you mostly film forwards — a shark passing, your buddy on the line, a snorkel trip with the children — the Ace Pro is simpler, much quicker to edit, and the flip screen makes framing yourself far easier. Add the Splash Kit if it is going to spend time in salt water.

If you are diving rather than snorkelling, the bundle route is the simpler one: you get the dive case, a memory card and a float or grip together, and the standalone X4 does not include a memory card at all.

No. Despite the brand name, the Ace Pro is a single-lens action camera with a 1/1.3in sensor and a flip-up screen, recording 4K at 30fps with Active HDR.
