Wetsuits, from skins to 8mm

The wetsuit range here is wide enough that the thickness on the label does most of the choosing for you. What it needs from you is honesty about where you actually dive, rather than where you would like to.

Warm water and layering

The Neoskin 1mm and the WPSkin rashguards are for sun, stings and a little warmth on a liveaboard. Alongside them sit the R30 rash vests in short and long sleeve, the T30 neoprene tops and shorts, and the U30 2mm undervests for adding a layer without changing suit. The warm water suits proper are the W30 shorties and 2.5mm full suits and the W5 v2 3.5mm, all cut for men and for women.

Temperate and cold water

The middle of the range is 5mm: the W50, the W7 and the W8, in men's and women's cuts. For a UK season the W7 and W8 go to 7mm, the W80 is 8mm, and the SD Neoflex 7mm is a semi-dry, sealed at the wrists, ankles and neck to cut down the flush of cold water through the suit rather than keeping you dry outright. These are all different cuts, so read the size chart on the product page instead of assuming your size carries across.

Drysuits and what goes underneath

There are three Waterproof drysuits here, each in a men's and a women's cut: the D3 Ergo, the D10 PRO ISS and the D1X Hybrid ISS.

Choosing between them

The differences are in cut, material and fittings, and they are the sort of thing better settled in conversation than off a spec sheet. Tell us how often you dive, whether the suit travels with you or stays local, and whether you want dry gloves on it from the start, and we will narrow it down. A drysuit is the one piece of kit where buying the wrong size is genuinely hard to live with.

Undersuits

A drysuit only keeps you warm because of what is inside it. We stock the BODY X and BODY 2X undersuit tops and trousers in men's and ladies' cuts, the NORD 200g undersuit, the 3D Mesh Vest and BodyX socks. Pick the undersuit at the same time as the suit: it changes how the suit fits and it changes the weight you will need, so it is not a decision to leave until after the first dive.

Hoods, boots and gloves

Hoods run through the H1 and H2 lines in bibbed and bibless cuts and in 3/5mm and 5/7mm, with Polar and high visibility versions in 5/7mm and 5/10mm, the H1 ICE and H1 2mm Ice hoods, and the H30 2mm for warmer water. There is a hair protector hood too, which is worth knowing about if you have long hair and have spent a season fighting it.

Boots cover the B1 6.5mm, the B2 6.5mm semi-dry and the B50 in low cut 3mm and 5mm, with B1 1.5mm neoprene socks, B2 2mm neoprene socks and S30 2mm socks underneath. The donning socks are the cheap trick that stops you fighting a tight suit on a cold morning. Gloves start at the G2 1.5mm and G30 2.5mm and go up to the G1, G2 and G50 in 5mm.

Keeping a suit diving: seals, valves and dry gloves

This is the part of a brand range most shops do not bother carrying, and it is the part that decides whether a drysuit lasts. We stock silicone wrist seals in standard, HD and bottle neck cuts, silicone neck seals in standard and small, and a neoprene neck seal. For fittings there is the QCS Wrist Kit and the Neck Tite Kit, the Waterproof and Sitech multi tool listed for valves and seals, and seal lubricant.

Valves and hoses are held separately: a swivel inlet valve, an automatic outlet valve and a 75cm inlet hose. Dry gloves run on the Ultima system, and we carry it through: suit rings in soft and standard, glove and twist glove rings, groove and cover rings, red and black O-rings, equalisation tubes, the push pull system and the Ultima tool, with latex dry gloves to fit them. Rings and seals do not swap freely between systems, so tell us which suit and which fitting you have and we will confirm the part before you order.

Bags, care and topside kit

Wet kit needs somewhere to go. The WP Dry Bags come in 10 and 65 litre, the WPX Drysuit Bag in 65 litre, and the WP Duffel Bag in 100 litre for a full set of gear. A suit hanger, a changing mat and a beach towel cover the car park end of the day, and there is a WPAD pocket if you want to add stowage to a wetsuit. For the surface interval there are W-Breaker jackets for men and women, a reversible beanie, the MultiTube head garment, a baseball cap, a drinks bottle and a slap strap.

Sizing runs by chest, height and weight together, so check the size chart on the product rather than guessing from your usual clothing size.
