Suunto Ocean dive computer
The Ocean is Suunto's answer to Garmin, and the headline number is battery life. Forty hours of dive time per charge is well beyond what the watch-style competition manages, and on a liveaboard that is the difference between charging mid-trip and not thinking about it at all.
It is handmade in Finland, runs a Bühlmann algorithm, and doubles as a full sports watch with 95 activity modes. If you already own a Suunto D5, the important detail is that the Ocean works with your existing Tank POD, so upgrading does not mean rebuying transmitters.
Depth rating is 60 metres and it handles two gas mixes, which places it firmly in the recreational and light technical bracket of our dive computers range rather than the trimix end.

Upgrading from a D5? Keep your POD
The Ocean uses the same Tank POD as the D5, so a D5 owner moving up does not need new transmitters. That saves a meaningful amount on the upgrade and is the main reason we sell these to existing Suunto divers.
Why divers choose the Suunto Ocean
Battery life you do not have to manage
Forty hours in dive mode is the standout figure. Divers coming from computers that need charging every second night notice it immediately, and on a week-long trip it removes an entire category of small daily admin.
Three PODs means real gas awareness
Support for up to three Tank PODs covers a twinset or a stage bottle setup without moving into a technical computer. Combined with two gas mixes, it takes recreational divers a good way into light technical diving before they outgrow it.
The dive route feature is genuinely different
The Ocean tracks a rough underwater position and draws where you actually went. It is not survey-grade, and Suunto does not claim it is, but for reviewing a drift or working out where a wreck sits relative to your entry it is more useful than a bare depth profile.
Serviced and set up in-house
Every dive computer we sell can be serviced in-house at our UK dive centre. We will pair the POD, set the algorithm conservatism, and make sure the alarms are configured for the diving you actually do.
Features that matter underwater
OLED display
Bright, high contrast and readable in direct sun as well as at depth. Suunto has historically been beaten on screen quality by the AMOLED competition, and the Ocean closes that gap.
Touchscreen with button backup
The touchscreen is quick on the surface. As with every touchscreen computer, learn the buttons before diving cold water in thick gloves.
Free offline world maps
Maps come free rather than as a subscription or a paid region download, which is worth noting against competitors who charge for the same thing.
95 sports modes
Cycling, running, swimming and the rest are all included. This is a genuine sports watch rather than a dive computer with a step counter, so it earns wrist time between trips.
60 metres and two gas mixes is the ceiling
The Ocean is not a trimix computer. If you are heading for technical training with multiple deco gases, buy a Shearwater or a Garmin X50i instead. Within recreational and light technical limits, the Ocean is excellent, but know where the ceiling is before you commit.
