Halcyon Tech Gloves
If you've ever tried to clip a cookie onto a guideline wearing 5mm gloves, you'll know why these exist. The Halcyon Tech Gloves are 3mm fingerless neoprene gloves built for divers who need their fingertips free to work, but still want something protecting the backs and palms of their hands from rock, wreck and line.
The detail we like most is the pocket on the back of each glove. It holds one or two non-directional line markers, so you can stage a cookie where you can actually reach it rather than fishing around in a thigh pocket mid-penetration.
These are warm water and temperate water gloves. They protect, they grip, they keep you dexterous. They will not keep your fingers warm in a UK quarry in February, and we'll tell you more about that below.
On this page
- 3mm neoprene made from recycled materials
- Fingerless design for full fingertip feel
- Marker pocket on the back of each hand, holds up to two cookies
- Textured non-slip palm for grip on lights, handles and scooters
- Sizes XS to XXL
Check your size before ordering. Halcyon state these run small. Measure your palm and compare it to the size chart, and if you're between sizes, go up one. Better still, pop into one of our centres and try a pair on.
Why divers choose the Halcyon Tech Gloves
You can still do fiddly jobs at depth
Bolt snaps, line arrows, cookies, spool clips, inflator buttons. Every one of these is easier with bare fingertips. With the fingers cut away you keep the feel you need to work a double-ender one-handed or tie off on a small line without fumbling.
Your hands come back in one piece
Line work, wreck penetration and cave diving all put your hands against things that scrape and cut. The 3mm neoprene takes that abuse across your palm and the back of your hand, which is where most of the damage happens when you're pulling along a line or bracing against a wall.
Markers are where your hand already is
Staging a cookie in the back-of-hand pocket means it's right at the point of use. When you're laying or following line, that saves you reaching across your body or into a pocket while trying to hold position and keep your light pointed where it should be.
Grip that doesn't let go of your light
The textured palm holds onto a Goodman handle, a scooter trigger housing or a wet canister without you having to squeeze. Less grip effort means less hand fatigue on a long dive.
Features that matter underwater
3mm recycled neoprene
Thin enough to keep your hands flexible, thick enough to take a knock. Halcyon make the neoprene from recycled materials, which is a nice bonus rather than the reason to buy them. The reason to buy them is the balance between protection and movement.
Fingerless cut
The fingers stop short so your fingertips are completely free. This is the feature that defines these gloves. It's brilliant for dexterity and it's also why they aren't a cold water thermal solution.
Back-of-hand marker pocket
Each glove has a pocket on top sized for one or two non-directional markers. It's for temporary placement during a dive, so think of it as a staging point rather than long-term storage for your full marker kit.
Textured non-slip palm
The palm panel is textured for grip and adds wear resistance where gloves usually fail first. If you dive a primary light on a Goodman handle, this is the bit of the glove doing the work.
Not a cold water glove. With exposed fingers, these won't give you thermal protection in UK winter water. For cold water drysuit diving we recommend a dry glove system. Talk to us and we'll help you choose one that works with your suit's wrist seals.
Why choose the Halcyon Tech Gloves
Most dive gloves are designed around warmth first and dexterity second. These flip that order. If your diving involves line work, whether that's cave diving in Mexico or Florida, wreck penetration in the Red Sea, or running drills on a cavern or wreck course, the thing that slows you down is usually your gloves, not the cold.
Cutting the fingers off a cheap pair of gloves gets you halfway there, but you lose the marker pocket and the reinforced palm, and they tend to fall apart after a few trips. The Halcyon version is purpose-built, so the cut edges, fit and palm material are designed for the job.
In our experience, these are the gloves tech divers pack for warm water trips and leave on for every dive. They're also a good choice for instructors who spend long sessions handling students' kit and want protection without losing feel.
Who the Halcyon Tech Gloves are for
- Cave and cavern divers heading to warm water systems
- Wreck divers running reels and doing penetration work in temperate or tropical water
- Divers training on cavern, intro to cave or wreck courses who want to practise line skills with protected hands
- Sidemount and backmount tech divers who need to work clips and valves without fumbling
- Instructors and divemasters working in pools or warm water who handle a lot of kit
- Scooter divers who want a secure grip on the trigger housing
Who it may not be for: if most of your diving is in UK lakes, quarries or the sea outside of high summer, these won't keep your hands warm. You're better off with 5mm wet gloves or a dry glove system. Have a look at our dive gloves collection or ask us which option suits your drysuit.
How to get the best from the Halcyon Tech Gloves
There's not much to set up, but a few habits make a real difference to how well they work and how long they last.
- Measure your palm across the widest point before ordering and size up if you're between sizes.
- Put them on before your wetsuit cuffs so the suit sleeve sits over the glove wrist and stops it riding up.
- Practise loading and retrieving a cookie from the back pocket on land and in the pool before you rely on it on a real dive.
- Don't overload the pocket. Two markers maximum, and treat it as temporary staging.
- Rinse in fresh water after every dive and dry them away from direct sun and heat to keep the neoprene supple.
- If you dive a Goodman handle, check the handle fits comfortably over the glove palm before your trip.
Want to try them with your own kit first? Spend over £100 with us and you can try your gear in the water at one of our five pool sites for free, with our instructors on hand. It's a great way to practise marker placement and check your fit before a cave trip. Get in touch to book.

Frequently asked questions
"Will these keep my hands warm in the UK?"
Not really. Your fingers are exposed, so in UK water below about mid-teens Celsius you'll feel it quickly. They're designed for warm and temperate water. For UK winter diving we'd steer you towards dry gloves.
"Why not just cut the fingers off an old pair?"
You can, and plenty of people have. You won't get the marker pocket, the textured palm or a clean cut edge, and DIY versions usually start fraying within a trip or two.
"Do they really run small?"
Yes. Halcyon say so themselves, and that matches what we've seen. Measure your palm and if you're between sizes, size up.
"Can I wear them with dry gloves?"
They're not designed as a liner, and the neoprene adds bulk inside a dry glove. If you're diving dry gloves, use a proper thermal liner instead.
Can I fit directional arrows in the pocket?
The pocket is sized for non-directional markers (cookies). Arrows are a different shape and won't sit as securely, so carry those elsewhere.
Are these suitable for cave courses?
For warm water cave and cavern training, yes, and plenty of divers wear them for exactly that. Check with your instructor about any glove requirements for your specific course.
How should I wash them?
Rinse in fresh water after each dive and let them air dry out of direct sunlight. Avoid tumble dryers and radiators.

These are a simple piece of kit that solves a real problem. If you dive with line, you'll notice the difference on the first dive, when you can clip, tie off and stage markers without taking your gloves off or fighting them.
They're not a cold water glove, and we won't pretend they are. For warm water tech, cave and wreck diving, and for anyone who wants protection without losing feel, they're the pair we'd pack.
