Regulator service

Your regulator is the only piece of kit you cannot dive without, and it is the one most divers postpone servicing. A set that has sat in a garage since last September will usually still breathe on the surface and still fail you in cold water, which is precisely when you need it.

We service in-house at our own dive centre. Your regulator does not get posted to a distributor and does not disappear into a queue for a month in the middle of the season. It is stripped, cleaned, worn parts replaced, reassembled and pressure tested by technicians who dive the same kit.

Booking a service is the same job as buying one, so it sits alongside the rest of our Oyster servicing work rather than in the shop.

Parts costs are quoted before we proceed

The service fee covers labour and standard service kit items. If a hose, diaphragm or other component needs replacing beyond that, we tell you the cost before we do the work. No one enjoys an unexpected invoice, least of all us.

Sending a regulator away means weeks of waiting and no idea who touched it. We do the work here, so turnaround is short and you can talk to the person who did it.

Cold water performance depends on it

Regulators free-flow in cold water when internals are worn or contaminated. An unserviced environmentally sealed first stage is not an environmentally sealed first stage. If you dive UK water in winter, this is a safety item rather than a maintenance chore.

It keeps your warranty intact

Most manufacturers require servicing at a stated interval for the warranty to remain valid. Skipping a year to save the fee can quietly cost you far more than the service would have.

What the service covers

Full strip and inspection

The regulator comes apart properly rather than getting a surface clean. Every component is inspected for wear, corrosion and contamination, which is where problems are found before they become failures.

First and second stages

Both stages are serviced, including diaphragms, seats and springs as required. Intermediate pressure is set and checked, and breathing effort is tuned rather than left at whatever it drifted to.

Hoses, mouthpieces and O-rings

Hoses are checked for bulges, cracking and corrosion at the fittings. Mouthpieces and cable ties are inspected and replaced where perished. O-rings are replaced as part of the service kit.

Pressure testing before it goes back

Every regulator is tested under pressure to confirm airflow and compliance before we hand it over. Nothing leaves on the assumption that it will probably be fine.

Book before the season, not during it

Every diver in the country remembers their service in April. Turnaround is quickest over the winter, and a priority fast service is available for an additional charge if you are caught short, subject to availability.

When your regulator needs a service

  • After any dive where it free-flowed or breathed wet
  • If it has been stored unused for a year or more
  • After a flood, a knock, or immersion without the dust cap fitted
  • Before a trip you have paid a lot of money for

If you are unsure whether yours is due, bring it in. A regulator that genuinely does not need work is a five-minute conversation rather than a bill.

How often should a scuba regulator be serviced?

Follow your manufacturer's stated interval, which is typically annual or every set number of dives. Servicing on schedule is usually also a condition of keeping the warranty valid.

What does a regulator service include?

How long does a regulator service take?

Do you service all regulator brands?

Select your brand when booking. If your make is not listed, contact us before sending it and we will confirm whether we can cover it.

My regulator breathes fine. Does it still need servicing?

Yes. Regulators usually breathe acceptably right up until they fail, and cold water is what exposes worn internals. Breathing fine on the surface in August tells you very little about February at 30 metres.
