Aqualung

Aqualung has been making dive gear since 1943, when Jacques Cousteau and Émile Gagnan built the first aqualung. The range here runs across the whole kit list: LEGEND and Helix regulators, Axiom, Pro HD and Rogue BCDs, the i-series dive computers, masks, fins, boots, wetsuits and bags. Whether you are qualifying this season or diving cold British water year-round, Oyster Diving stocks it and dives it.

Start with where you dive, not the top of the range

Aqualung's line-up is wide enough that it is easy to overbuy. Work out first whether your diving is mostly warm-water holidays or year-round UK water, then choose to match. Travelling divers should look at the Helix Compact regulators and the lighter AquaFlex suits. If you are diving British water through the winter, the LEGEND regulators and the Iceland Semi-Dry or Solaflex belong on your list instead. Size the BCD before you commit to anything else, and remember the Transmitter Rev2 only makes sense alongside a computer that pairs with it. Our instructors dive this kit, so ask if you want a second opinion.

Regulators: the LEGEND and Helix lines

Two regulator families run through this collection. LEGEND is the long-standing flagship, and you will find the LEGEND, the LEGEND MBS and the LEGEND Elite here. Helix is the newer line, stocked as the Helix, the Helix Pro, the Helix Compact and the Helix Compact Pro.

Choosing between them is mostly a question of where your diving happens. If you are doing UK shore and boat work most weekends, look at the LEGEND end first. If you fly to your diving and weigh your bag before every trip, start with the Compact versions instead. Whichever you pick, budget for servicing from the outset rather than treating it as a surprise later.

BCDs: Axiom, Pro HD and Rogue

Six BCDs sit in this collection and they cover three approaches. The Axiom comes in men's and women's cuts. The Pro HD does the same and adds a Compact version. The Rogue is the pared-back option, and we stock the Rogue BCD Bladder Cover alongside it so you can change the colour or replace one that has had a hard life.

If this is your first BCD, get sized in person if you possibly can. Fit is the thing divers regret, not the feature list, and a women's-cut shell solves problems that no amount of strap adjustment will.

Dive computers: the i-series

Four Aqualung computers are stocked here: the i200C, the i300C, the i330R and the i770R. They step up in roughly that order. Newly qualified divers heading somewhere warm are well served at the i200C and i300C end. The i330R and i770R are the ones to look at if you dive year-round or want more from the display. The Transmitter Rev2 is listed separately, so check it against the computer you already own before adding it to the basket.

Suits, masks and the rest of the kit

Wetsuits

The suit range is the deepest part of this collection. AquaFlex is the core dive suit and appears in men's 3mm, 5mm and 7mm plus a women's cut. For colder water there is the Iceland Semi-Dry in men's and women's and the Solaflex 8/7mm for men. The HydroFlex 3mm shorty and the Dynaflex cover the women's side, and the Wave Junior and Wave Junior Shorty are there for younger divers.

Masks and snorkels

Three dive masks are stocked: the Linea, the Plazma and the Teknika. The Sphera X is the freediving mask in the range, and the Reveal UltraFit is the option if you need a prescription fit. The Wrap Snorkel is sold on its own, and the Nabul Combo pairs a mask and snorkel together, which is the sensible starting point if you are buying your first set.

Fins, boots, gloves and bags

Storm and Storm Max cover the fins. Superzip and Evo4 cover the boots. Liquid Grip 5mm gloves and the Ceramiqskin men's long-sleeve rashguard round out the exposure protection. On bags, the Explorer line runs 45L, 90L and 120L, and there is also an Explorer II Duffle Pack, an Explorer Regulator II Bag and an Adventure Mesh Duffle.

Buying Aqualung from Oyster Diving

Oyster Diving is a dive school as well as a shop, so this kit is picked by people who teach on it and dive it in British water. If you are unsure what to buy, tell us where you dive and how often, and we will point you at the right end of the range rather than the top of it.

Frequently asked questions

Which brands does Oyster Diving stock in this collection?

Everything on this page is Aqualung. It is a brand collection, so Aqualung is the only manufacturer listed here, covering regulators, BCDs, dive computers, masks, wetsuits, fins, boots, gloves and bags. Other manufacturers sit in their own collections elsewhere in the shop.

Which Aqualung regulator should I choose?

It usually comes down to where you dive rather than what is top of the range. The LEGEND family is Aqualung's long-standing flagship line and the collection carries the LEGEND, the LEGEND MBS and the LEGEND Elite. The Helix line is the newer one, with the Helix, Helix Pro, Helix Compact and Helix Compact Pro all stocked. If you fly to most of your diving, start by looking at the Compact versions. If you are between two, talk to us before you order.

Do you stock Aqualung BCDs in women's fits?

Yes. The Axiom and the Pro HD are both stocked in women's cuts alongside the men's versions, and the Pro HD Compact is here as well. The Rogue is the pared-back option in the range, and we also carry the Rogue BCD Bladder Cover if you want to change the colour or replace one that has had a hard life. Get sized in person if you can. Fit is what divers regret on a BCD, not the feature list.

Which Aqualung dive computer is right for me?

Four are stocked here and they step up in order: the i200C, the i300C, the i330R and the i770R. If you are newly qualified and diving mainly on holiday, start at the i200C or i300C end of the range. The i330R and i770R are worth looking at if you dive more often or want more from the display. The Transmitter Rev2 is sold separately, so check it against the computer you own before you order.

Which Aqualung wetsuits do you stock for UK diving?

The AquaFlex is the core dive suit and comes in men's 3mm, 5mm and 7mm as well as a women's cut. For colder water there is the Iceland Semi-Dry in both men's and women's, and the Solaflex 8/7mm for men. The HydroFlex 3mm shorty and the Dynaflex cover the women's side, and the Wave Junior and Wave Junior Shorty are there for younger divers. We also stock Liquid Grip 5mm gloves and the Ceramiqskin long-sleeve rashguard.
