Garmin Descent X10 dive computer
The Descent X10 is the Garmin for divers who have finished their Open Water course and want their own computer without paying for a smartwatch they did not ask for. It does the job a first computer needs to do, it does it on a big 2.1 inch screen you can actually read, and it runs for up to 50 hours of diving between charges.
It is not a cut-down toy. Under the hood it runs the same Bühlmann ZHL-16c algorithm with gradient factors that Garmin uses across the Descent range, it handles nitrox up to 40 percent, and it has proper scuba, apnoea and gauge modes. What you give up against the dearer Descents is air integration, colour, multi-gas switching and the smartwatch features, and for a lot of divers that is exactly the right trade.
Garmin also builds the housing and bezel from 100 percent recycled ocean-bound plastic, which for a dive computer feels like the right place to start.

The X10 does not read tank pressure and has no GPS of its own. Dive entry and exit points are saved through the Garmin Dive app on your paired phone. If you want gas pressure on your wrist, look at the Descent Mk3i or Descent X50i with a T2 transceiver instead.
Why divers choose the Descent X10
You can read it in UK water
Many entry-level computers have a small segment screen that is fine in the Red Sea and hard work in a green, murky quarry. The X10's 2.1 inch display uses large text and a backlight that switches on with depth or a button press, and you can set it to stay on for the whole dive. In poor visibility, being able to read your no-stop time at a glance is the whole point.
You stop thinking about batteries
Fifty hours of dive time is a full liveaboard week for most people without touching the charger, and six months in standby means it will still be alive when you dig it out for the first dive of the season. No coin cells to swap and no seals to disturb.
It grows with your first year of diving
Plenty of new divers buy a basic computer and then take a nitrox course three months later. The X10 already handles nitrox to 40 percent, has customisable conservatism and gradient factors, and logs every dive to your phone, so it keeps up as your diving gets more varied.
It works for freediving too
Apnoea mode means one computer covers your scuba trips and your freediving sessions. If you split your time between the two, that saves buying a second device.
Features that matter underwater
NDL Aware depth metrics
This shows, in real time, how much no-stop time you would gain or lose by moving up or down. On a wall or a wreck, that turns "should I go shallower?" from a guess into a number, which is exactly what a newer diver needs to learn.
Audible and vibration alerts
Ascent rate, PO2, NDL and decompression alarms come as both a beep and a vibration, and you can set up to 40 custom alerts by depth or time for each dive mode. In a thick hood you may not hear a beep. You will feel the vibration.
Customisable safety stop and conservatism
Safety stops can be set to off, 3 or 5 minutes, and conservatism runs from low to high or custom gradient factors. Instructors and more cautious divers can tighten it up, and you can set deep stops through custom gradient factors if you want them.
Flip-screen mode and a hinged band
Flip-screen mode puts the buttons above the display, which suits people who wear it on the other wrist or just prefer that layout. The hinged silicone band is sized from 140 to 360 mm, so it goes over a wetsuit without a fight.
Replaceable colour bezel guards
Garmin's X10 bezel guards come in Black, Amp Yellow, Aqua and Purple Iris. They protect the bezel and make your computer easy to pick out in a pile of kit, which is handy on a busy boat or when two buddies dive the same model.
Setup sharing and rental mode
Setup sharing syncs your settings to other compatible Descent computers, which is handy if you dive a second Garmin as a backup. Rental mode lets a dive school or club reset the computer between divers in a few button presses.
One gas at a time
The X10 dives one bottom gas: air or nitrox from 21 to 40 percent. Garmin lists up to 11 backup gases in its settings, but it is not built for planned decompression with a stage or deco cylinder. If you are heading into technical training, the Descent X50i is the computer that will not need replacing.
Why choose the Descent X10
At its price, the X10 sits against the basic wrist computers that most new divers end up with. Its advantage is the screen. A 2.1 inch display with large digits is easier to read than the small segment screens you usually get at this money, and that matters more in UK water than any feature on a spec sheet.
Against the rest of the Garmin range, it is the honest option. The Descent G2 is a watch you can wear every day. The Descent X30 adds a bigger colour screen. The X10 strips it back to the dive computer itself, and if you only wear a computer when you are wet, there is no point paying for the rest.
The real benefit of owning one is that you stop diving rental computers you do not know. Every dive is logged in the same place, your settings are always your settings, and you learn one screen properly instead of a different one every trip.
Who the Descent X10 is for
- New divers buying their first computer after Open Water or Advanced
- Holiday divers who dive a few weeks a year and want something simple and readable
- Nitrox divers who dive one mix and want a clear screen and long battery life
- Divers who also freedive and want one device for both
- Owners of a Mk3i or G2 who want a matching backup computer
- Dive clubs and schools that need a dependable computer with a rental mode
Who it may not be for: if you want tank pressure on your wrist, multi-gas decompression or a watch you wear to work, this is the wrong Garmin. Look at the G2, Mk3i or X50i in our dive computers range, or ask us which fits the diving you actually do.
How to get the best from the Descent X10
Ten minutes on the sofa before your first dive will save you fiddling with menus on the boat.
- Charge it fully and pair it with the Garmin Dive app on your phone before the trip.
- Set water type to salt or fresh to match where you are diving.
- Set your gas. If you are diving nitrox, check the O2 percentage against your analyser reading before every dive.
- Pick your conservatism and safety stop length, and leave them alone until you understand what they change.
- Switch the backlight to always on if you dive in UK water or at night.
- Run a dive in simulation mode so you know where NDL, depth and ascent rate sit on the screen.
- After the dive, sync the log to the app so your entry and exit points are saved.
We will set it up with you
Spend over £100 with us and you can bring the X10 to one of our instructor-run pool sessions to get confident with it before your next trip. You can also bring it into our Hove shop, or contact us, and we will go through the settings with you.

Frequently asked questions
When will the Descent X10 arrive?
It is on pre-order and expected in stock on 21 December 2026. We send it as soon as Garmin's stock reaches us, so it will not arrive before Christmas. If you need a computer sooner, the Descent G2 is the closest alternative.
"It costs more than a basic computer. Why pay it?"
For the screen and the battery. A 2.1 inch display with large digits and a proper backlight is far easier to read in UK visibility than a small segment screen, and 50 hours of dive time on a rechargeable battery means no coin cells to replace. You also get Garmin's dive app and NDL Aware, which most entry computers do not have.
Can I dive nitrox with the Descent X10?
Yes. It supports nitrox from 21 to 40 percent oxygen with PO2 up to 1.6. It dives one gas at a time, so it suits recreational nitrox rather than technical decompression.
Does the X10 have air integration?
No. It does not read tank pressure. If you want pressure on your wrist, the Descent Mk3i and X50i work with Garmin's T2 transceiver.
Will it fit over my drysuit?
The included hinged band runs from 140 to 360 mm and is made for wetsuits. Over a drysuit cuff, fit a 26 mm QuickFit bungee mount, which swaps on without tools.
Can I use it as a backup to my Mk3i or G2?
It suits that job well. Setup sharing syncs settings between compatible Descent computers, so your backup matches your primary. Ask us to confirm compatibility with your specific model before you rely on it.
Can I wear it as an everyday watch?
It shows the time and has an alarm, timer and stopwatch, but it is a 56 x 72 mm dive computer, not a smartwatch. If you want one device for the office and the dive boat, the Descent G2 is the better choice.
Is it any good for freediving?
It has a dedicated apnoea mode, so it works for freediving sessions as well as scuba. Serious competitive freedivers may want a more specialised apnoea computer, but for divers who do both, it covers it.
What is the maximum depth of the Garmin Descent X10?
The Descent X10 is rated to 100 metres, well beyond recreational diving limits.
How many dives does the Descent X10 store?
It holds 200 dives in its 120 MB memory, and every dive can be synced to the Garmin Dive app so nothing is lost.
Which decompression algorithm does the Descent X10 use?
Bühlmann ZHL-16c with gradient factors, with low, medium, high or custom conservatism.
How do you charge the Garmin Descent X10?
With the Garmin charging and data cable included in the box. A full charge gives up to 50 hours in dive mode.
Buying the Descent X10
The X10 is the computer for divers who want to own their dive data, read their screen and forget about batteries, without paying for features they will never use. It is the simplest way into the Garmin Descent range, and it still runs the algorithm and nitrox support you would find on the dearer models.
If your diving is mostly holidays, UK weekends and the odd freedive, it covers all of it. If you are heading towards technical diving or want air integration, spend more now on the X50i rather than twice later.
