Halcyon Pro Single Cylinder BC System

If you want the lightest Halcyon single tank setup you can buy, this is it. The Pro system pairs a carbon fibre backplate with Halcyon's Cinch quick-adjust harness and a carbon fibre single tank adapter, then lets you choose between the proven Eclipse wing and the newer Era wing.

This replaces what used to be sold as the Eclipse Pro. The idea is the same, a minimalist backplate and wing built to technical diving standards, but the spec has moved on. You now get a choice of wing, a choice of hardware, and a system that comes packed in a Halcyon Traverse bag ready for travel.

We dive Halcyon in the quarries and on the south coast, and we teach in it. This is the system we point people to when they're flying with kit regularly or simply want the cleanest, lightest rig they'll ever need to replace.

  • Eclipse wing (20, 30 or 40 lb lift) or Era wing (30 or 40 lb lift)
  • Carbon fibre backplate with integrated Cinch quick-adjust harness
  • Deluxe harness padding and quick-adjust crotch strap
  • Carbon fibre single tank adapter with two cam straps
  • Stainless steel or aluminium hardware
  • Inflator with 52 cm / 22 in LP hose
  • Packed in a Halcyon Traverse bag

Before you order: pick your wing and lift first. The Era only comes in 30 and 40 lb. If you dive a single aluminium cylinder in a thin wetsuit abroad, the 20 lb Eclipse is often the better match. Not sure? Ask us and we'll talk it through with you.

Fancy something custom? Try Halcyon's configurator, then get in touch with your design and we'll order it for you.

Why divers choose the Halcyon Pro

Your baggage allowance goes further

Carbon fibre is the whole point of this system. Swap a stainless backplate and STA for carbon and you take a noticeable chunk of weight out of your bag, which matters when an airline is charging you by the kilo. System weight: [INSERT VERIFIED WEIGHT HERE].

Fit changes take seconds, not a screwdriver

With a traditional one-piece harness, moving from a 7 mm semi-dry in Greece to a drysuit at Mercers Lake means rethreading webbing. The Cinch system lets you tighten or loosen the harness by hand, on the boat, even with gloves on. That's a real advantage if your diving swings between warm water and UK conditions.

Trim that stays put

A long, low-profile wing sitting close to a rigid plate keeps your gas and your weight where they should be. Students who move into a Halcyon rig from a jacket BCD usually find their trim sorts itself out within a couple of dives.

A rig you won't outgrow

This is the same backplate and wing concept used on technical dives. Take it from Open Water through to Tec 40 or sidemount crossover training and the core of the system doesn't need replacing.

Features that matter underwater

Eclipse or Era wing

The Eclipse is the long, narrow single tank wing Halcyon has built its reputation on, available in 20, 30 and 40 lb lift. The Era is the newer design. Its bladder shape pushes air lower in the wing, which makes holding a flat horizontal position easier, and it adds four zipped trim pockets holding 1 kg each, dual hose openings for tidier routing, and a low-profile elbow that sits tight to the tank and leaves more room for your head. If you're buying new in 2026, we think the Era is worth a serious look.

Carbon fibre backplate with Cinch harness

The plate is stiff, corrosion resistant and light. The integrated Cinch system means the harness tightens with a simple pull, so you can gear up loose and snug it down once you're sitting on the tank. It's especially useful for divers who struggle with shoulder mobility when donning kit.

Deluxe padding and quick-adjust crotch strap

The padded shoulders make a real difference on long surface swims and heavy twinset-style lifts. The quick-adjust crotch strap stops the plate riding up and lets you tune trim without stripping the rig.

Carbon fibre single tank adapter

The carbon STA locks a single cylinder close to your back with two cam straps. Less weight than stainless, no rust, and a stable mount for 12 or 15 litre cylinders. A weighted stainless STA is available if you'd rather put lead on the tank instead.

Optional ACB10 weight pockets

ACB10 pockets are no longer included as standard but can be added. Each holds up to 4 kg / 10 lb and sits on the waist strap, which is a cleaner option than a separate weight belt for most single tank divers.

Halcyon ships this system for final assembly. If you buy through us, we can build and set it up for you in store so it arrives ready to dive. Weight pockets, trim pockets and colour upgrades add to the price.

Why choose the Halcyon Pro

Halcyon offer three single cylinder systems: Standard, Deluxe and Pro. The Standard uses an aluminium plate and stainless STA and is a strong starting point. The Pro is where you go when weight and adjustability matter more than price. You're paying for carbon fibre and the Cinch harness, and if you travel with your kit more than once or twice a year, both earn their keep fast.

Compared with jacket-style travel BCDs, a backplate and wing gives you better trim, a cleaner profile and a system you can reconfigure as your diving changes. Compared with other carbon backplate systems, Halcyon's advantage is the wing. The Eclipse has a long track record and the Era moves the design forward in ways you'll notice in the water.

Spend over £100 with us and you can try your kit in the water at one of our five pool sites for free, with an instructor on hand. For a system at this level, we'd recommend it. Getting the harness and trim right in a pool saves you fiddling on your first open water dive.

Who is the Halcyon Pro for

  • Divers who fly with their kit and want to save weight without losing performance
  • Recreational divers heading into technical training who want to buy once
  • Divers who switch between wetsuit and drysuit and need fast harness adjustment
  • Instructors and Divemasters wanting a durable, easy-to-adjust rig for daily use
  • Anyone who wants a fully personalised system, down to wing colour and logos

Who it may not be for: if you mostly dive the UK in a heavy drysuit and need ballast, a stainless plate does some of that work for you and the carbon saving matters less. Divers on a tighter budget will get most of the in-water benefit from the Standard system. Browse our full wing systems collection to compare.

How to get the best from the Halcyon Pro

A backplate and wing only performs if it's set up properly. These are the things we check with every customer.

  • Choose lift to match your diving. 20 lb for warm water single aluminium tanks, 30 lb for most UK and mixed diving, 40 lb if you carry stages or heavy steel cylinders.
  • Set the harness in your thickest exposure suit first, then use the Cinch to take up slack in thinner suits.
  • Position the STA so the tank valve sits just below the back of your head when you're horizontal.
  • Carry most of your lead on the STA or ACB pockets. Use the Era trim pockets only for fine balance.
  • Route your hoses through the Era's dual openings, or along the plate edge with the Eclipse, before your first dive.
  • Rinse the inflator and dump valves in fresh water after every dive, especially after the sea.

Want it built and fitted before you take it home? Our instructors can assemble the system, size the harness on you and check trim in the pool. Contact us or come into store to arrange it.

Frequently asked questions

"It's a lot more than the Standard system. Is it worth it?"

If you travel with your kit, yes. The carbon plate and STA cut weight you'd otherwise pay for at check-in, and the Cinch harness saves real hassle when you change exposure suits. If you only dive locally in a drysuit, the Standard will serve you just as well in the water.

Should I get the Eclipse or the Era wing?

The Eclipse is proven and comes in a 20 lb size, which suits light warm water setups. The Era trims flatter, routes hoses more cleanly and adds trim pockets. For most divers buying today, we'd lean towards the Era unless you specifically need 20 lb of lift.

Is carbon fibre strong enough for a backplate?

Yes. It's stiff, it doesn't corrode and it's used on technical systems. The only practical difference you'll notice is that you'll carry a bit more lead, because you lose the ballast a stainless plate provides.

Will this work in a drysuit in UK water?

It works very well. Go for 30 or 40 lb lift depending on your cylinder, and plan your weighting with the STA or ACB pockets. We dive this setup at Mercers Lake throughout the year.

Can I try it before I commit?

Spend over £100 and you can try your kit at one of our five pool sites for free, with an instructor there to help set it up.

Can I use it for twin cylinders?

This system is configured for single cylinders. The backplate can take twin tank wings, but you'd need a doubles wing and bands. Ask us about Halcyon's doubles options.

Does it come assembled?

Halcyon supply it for final assembly. Buy through us and we can put it together and size it to you.
