XDEEP Zen Ultralight wing system
The Zen Ultralight is the travel version of XDEEP's single cylinder wing, and the weight saving is real rather than cosmetic. If your rig spends its life in a suitcase and a baggage allowance, this is the one to buy.
What makes it work is that XDEEP did not achieve the weight by making it flimsy. The wing is a double-shell Cordura construction, so it still survives being dragged over a boat deck. You lose mass, not durability.
It shares the NX series harness and ergonomic backplate with the rest of our backplate and wing systems, which means the trim and the fit are the same. The difference is what you carry to the airport.

Choose the backplate material for how you travel
An aluminium plate saves the most weight and is the obvious pairing for a travel wing, with lead added at the destination. A stainless plate carries 2 to 3kg for you, which is useful at home and expensive in a suitcase. Tell us how you dive and we will spec it.
Why divers choose the Zen Ultralight
Weight you get back in your baggage allowance
A backplate and wing is heavy kit and airlines do not care why. Shedding weight here is what makes it possible to travel with your own rig instead of renting whatever the resort has, which is the entire argument for owning a travel setup.
Durable enough for real diving
The double-shell Cordura wing means this is a travel rig you can also dive at home. Plenty of ultralight gear is a compromise you regret on a UK shore dive. This one is not.
The NX harness comes on and off easily
A one-piece webbing harness is bombproof and awkward to get into. The NX harness keeps the stability and makes donning and doffing straightforward, which matters more as you dive in thicker suits.
Set up and serviced in-house
Like every wing we sell, the Zen Ultralight can be serviced in-house at our UK dive centre, and we will thread and cut the harness to your exposure suit before it goes anywhere near an aircraft.
Features that matter underwater
Gas positioned to avoid dead air
The bladder is shaped so gas sits where it is useful rather than pooling in corners you cannot vent. That is what gives predictable buoyancy control and stops the wing from trapping a bubble at your shoulders on ascent.
Ergonomic backplate
Contoured rather than flat, which spreads load and removes the lumbar pressure that a flat plate creates over a long dive. Smaller divers notice this most.
Modular weight system
Weight can be added and removed in modules rather than committing to one configuration. For a travel rig this matters, because the weight you need in a 3mm suit in Egypt is nothing like the weight you need at home.
Streamlined profile
Less drag, less to snag, better air consumption. The same argument as the rest of the Zen family, in a lighter package.
Ultralight is a travel choice, not a capability upgrade
This is not a more capable wing than the standard NX Zen. It is a lighter one. If your rig lives in a car boot and gets used every other weekend in the UK, buy the standard NX Zen instead and keep the extra ruggedness.
Ultralight or standard NX Zen
Same harness, same backplate philosophy, same trim. The Ultralight is built for travel and packs smaller. The standard NX Zen is heavier, more rugged, and the better choice if the rig lives in a car and gets dragged over shingle.
If you genuinely do both, most divers we speak to end up buying the standard NX Zen and living with the weight, because they dive at home more often than they fly. Buy the Ultralight if travel is the main event rather than the exception.

What is the difference between the Zen Ultralight and the NX Zen?
The Ultralight is built for travel and weighs less. The standard NX Zen is heavier and more rugged. Capability and trim are comparable, so choose on whether the rig flies or lives in a car boot.
Is the Zen Ultralight durable enough for UK diving?
Yes. The double-shell Cordura wing handles UK conditions perfectly well. The standard NX Zen is tougher still, which is why we recommend it for rigs that get heavy weekly use at home.
Which backplate should I pair with the Zen Ultralight?
Aluminium, in almost every case. The point of an ultralight wing is saving baggage weight, and a stainless plate gives 2 to 3kg of that back. Add lead at the destination instead.
Does the Zen Ultralight come with a harness?
Yes, the NX series harness is part of the system, and harness type is one of the options you choose at order. We will thread and cut it to your exposure suit before you take it away.
Can the Zen Ultralight be used for twinsets later?
The plate and harness carry over with the right adapter, the wing does not. As with the rest of the Zen family, divers moving to twins keep the harness and buy a twinset wing.
